GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This is general office work involving assistance for the Special Education Division. There is considerable contact with staff, students, parents and outside agencies. Must keep informed of procedures and requirements.
An employee in this position works with clearly established systems and procedures, must exhibit organizational skills and exercise independent judgment and confidentiality in performance of duties. The Special Education Division Assistant must exhibit initiative and embrace a collaborative team approach to accomplish the mission of the district.

Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must have physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials and office equipment up to 40 lbs.
- Must organize and prioritize workflow.
- Must be proficient in the use of computers, office practices, procedures and office equipment.
- Must project a positive image of the district to students, staff and parents as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude.
- Must demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills, and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public.
- Must have awareness of a variety of student needs including physical and social emotional needs.
- Must assemble and organize data and prepare reports from records.
- Assists in the efficient and effective functioning of Special Education Department including but not limited to:
- coordinating test accommodations
- inputting, updating and maintaining confidential reports, records, and related information
- preparing mailings to students and parents
- preparing materials for special education programs (i.e. Office of Rehabilitation Services requests, Vocational Screenings, Pre-referrals)
- arranging transportation for special education students
- Assists the special education staff including but not limited to:
- scheduling appointments, conferences and programs
- maintaining and updating special education files
- preparing instructional materials
- ensuring paperwork complies with legal timelines and IEP compliance
- maintaining the division calendar and scheduling activities
- entering class attendance when teacher is absent
- providing support to substitute teachers
- performing other clerical duties related to the division
- ensuring operation of office equipment
- Assists students including but not limited to:
- helping to process forms and applications
- referring to appropriate resources
- Performing tasks to support the Assessment Center
- Participating in appropriate professional development activities in order to enhance job performance.
- Cultivating and developing inclusive and equitable working relationships with staff, students and community members.
