On-Call Maintenance Technician / Handyman

Township Building Services is seeking a reliable and experienced On-Call Maintenance Technician to assist with general handyman work and property maintenance throughout the Anchorage area.

This is an on-call position with hours based on client needs and available projects. The ideal candidate is dependable, able to work independently, and comfortable completing a variety of basic repair and maintenance assignments at commercial properties.

Responsibilities

• Complete general handyman and property-maintenance work
• Perform minor drywall repairs, patching, and painting
• Complete minor plumbing repairs, such as replacing faucets, fixtures, and toilet components
• Replace light bulbs, switches, fixtures, and other basic components within authorized limits
• Assemble, install, adjust, and repair doors, locks, shelving, furniture, and hardware
• Perform basic carpentry and finish work
• Assist with tenant improvements, property inspections, and preventive-maintenance tasks
• Respond to scheduled and occasional urgent service requests
• Take clear before-and-after photos and document completed work
• Communicate professionally with management, clients, tenants, and vendors
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Follow all company, client, and job-site safety requirements

Qualifications

• Previous experience in facilities maintenance, apartment maintenance, construction, or handyman work preferred
• General knowledge of common repair tools, materials, and maintenance practices
• Ability to troubleshoot basic maintenance issues and complete work with limited supervision
• Ability to use a smartphone for calls, messages, photographs, and work-order updates
• Strong communication, time-management, and customer-service skills
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and safely use ladders and common hand and power tools
• Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to properties throughout the Anchorage area
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record may be required
• Must be able to pass applicable background and employment screening requirements

Schedule and Availability

• Hours will vary depending on client requests and project availability
• Work may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, or occasional emergency calls
• This position does not guarantee a fixed number of hours
• Candidates should clearly communicate their availability and response area
• 2.5 hours a week are dedicated for site inspection where reports will need to be completed and submitted in timely manner.

Compensation

Starting pay is $25.00 per hour, with final compensation based on experience, qualifications, tools, and the type of work assigned.
