Townsen Surgery Center - East Dallas is looking for a full-time Charge Nurse, Operating Room to join our team in Mesquite, TX!
Current, active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Texas required.
SUMMARY: The Charge Nurse, OR is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care provided at the facility. The Charge Nurse managing all services and nursing responsibilities during each shift by providing assistance and care for patients, supervising nursing staff, maintaining a safe working environment, and ensuring that all operational tasks are completed on time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage nursing care for all patients in the unit
- Maintain operational flow of surgical cases
- Assess and address the physical and emotional needs of patients
- Collaborate with Anesthesia regarding OR operational needs and workflow
- Update patient medical records with services provided health condition and response to treatments
- Recognize changes in patients' condition and respond appropriately
- Inform physicians of any changes in patients' progress, condition, or medicinal needs
- Detect any issues that could result in injuries or other difficulties for patients or staff members
- Address patient complaints in a timely fashion to ensure patient satisfaction
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
- Supervise surgical staff and delegate the shift's tasks and coordinate with physicians
- Coordinate daily administrative duties, including schedules, surgical staff assignments, and patient care
- Schedule staff and patients to ensure full coverage to provide safe and effective patient care
- Ensure proper care supplies are on hand
- Assist in developing budgetary guidelines
- Handle employee conflicts or concerns
- Coordinate with doctors and administrators to communicate any protocol changes to staff
- Coordinate services with other patient care units and maintain communication
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
- Oversee quality assurance activities and compliance with operational standards
- Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety
- Ensure surgical orders from the clinic align with the history and physical (H&P), patient consent, and scheduled procedure
- Verify that all required lab work, imaging, and pre-operative clearances (e.g., cardiology, anticoagulation management) are up to date and comply with facility and physician requirements.
- Confirm the availability of all necessary instruments, implants, and supplies before the scheduled surgery date
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or missing information by coordinating with the clinic, surgeons, pre-op staff, and anesthesia providers to prevent delays
- Act as resource; gives advice and instructions to employees; coaches staff on assigned tasks; facilitates problem/issue resolution
- Act as expert/super user for equipment, technical problems, and for advanced or difficult procedures
- Monitor daily work assignments
- Give input/feedback timely to management relative to employee performance and training needs
- Perform other related tasks as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of safety practices and procedures to ensure compliance and patient well - being
- Excellent leadership, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills to effectively manage teams and collaborate across departments
- Ability to maintain sound judgment, attention to detail, and efficiency under pressure during demanding shifts
- Skilled in providing leadership, training, and support to nursing staff and related patient care personnel
- In-depth knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements, ensuring adherence to healthcare standards
- Ability to develop, implement, and oversee quality assurance programs to enhance patient outcomes
- Capable of understanding, following, and enforcing safety procedures within the healthcare setting
- Advanced understanding of protocols and procedures within specified patient care areas
- Proficient in administering critical care drugs with knowledge of indications, contraindications, and side effects
- Strong background in providing nursing care for pre- , intra- , and post-operative patients
- Advanced assessment capabilities, IV therapy proficiency, and ability to operate vital sign monitors.
- Thorough understanding of nursing diagnoses and patient care planning
- Skilled in Microsoft Office and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems for efficient documentation and workflow management
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associates Degree in Nursing
- Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
- Three (3) years of perioperative nursing experience.
- One (1) year of nursing leadership experience
- Basic Life Support certified
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire
