Townsen Memorial is hiring for a Night Shift PRN Intermediate Care Unit Nurse to join out team in our Houston, TX. (77072) location!
SUMMARY:
The Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for a designated group of patients in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and standards. The IMCU RN provides high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to patients who require more frequent monitoring and nursing intervention, but who are not critical enough to require intensive care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care to a variety of complex medical and post-surgical patients.
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygen levels, and neurological status.
- Administer medications, IV therapy, and treatments as prescribed.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, respiratory therapists, and case management.
- Recognize and respond to early signs of patient deterioration.
- Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, procedures, and post-discharge care.
- Maintain compliance with infection control, patient safety, and quality standards.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development.
- Perform other related tasks as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong assessment and clinical judgment skills.
- Strong clinical reasoning and ability to anticipate complications and act quickly.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making in high-stress, time-sensitive situations.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients and tasks efficiently.
- Effective and professional communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Proficient in EMR systems and basic computer skills.
- Proficient in telemetry monitoring, recognizing arrhythmias, and initiating appropriate nursing interventions.
- Ability to safely handle rapidly changing patient conditions and initiate emergency response protocols.
- Familiarity with intermediate care nursing principles, including step-down and telemetry-level care.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associates Degree in Nursing
- Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
- One (1) year of experience in medical-surgical telemetry or intermediate care unit (IMCU)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certified
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified
- Demonstrated EKG competency within (60) days of hire
