Performs intermediate professional and technical work supporting the Director of Planning & Zoning, including research, analysis, and presentation of planning data; review of development proposals; management and tracking of applications; permitting and code enforcement; and related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Planning.

Job Summary

Essential Job Functions

Supports the Director of Community Development in reviewing land use applications, including development projects (site plans, subdivisions, rezonings, special permit applications), and compiles reports reflecting interdepartmental reviews.

Collects and maintains statistical data and prepares maps to assist in updating the Comprehensive Plan and presenting planning reports.

Conducts research and collects background data to assist with zoning interpretations, Board of Zoning Appeals cases, and code enforcement.

Maintains map and plan document files, including large-format site plans and subdivision plans.

Responds to walk-in and phone inquiries regarding routine planning issues such as flood plain designation, property zoning, street addressing, and application/permit approval procedures.

Collaborate with other Town departments to prepare special studies requiring planning resources.

Attends and participates in professional meetings internally and externally; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of planning and zoning.

Assists with the enforcement of codes; notifies and consults with violators to resolve problems and correct deficiencies.

Assists with the preparation of reports, presentations, and correspondence for the Town Manager, Town Council, Planning Commission, and public. Possible after-hours meetings may be required.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in planning, urban design, civil engineering, or a related field, and minimal experience in planning, zoning administration, or community development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

General knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, urban design theory, and zoning; ability to assist with site plan review and to utilize computer-aided designs; ability to utilize geographic information systems; familiarity with grant application and monitoring processes; ability to communicate ideas effectively in both oral and written formats; ability to write professional and technical planning reports and papers; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, developers, engineers/surveyors, governmental agency representatives, elected officials, attorneys and the general public; and the ability to maintain familiarization with current best practices in land use.

Special Requirements:

Certified Zoning Official certification required within 3 years of hire. Possession of

Valid driver’s license.

Pay: $52,674.00 - $63,209.00 per year
