CUSTODIAN
Department: Library Salary Grade: W-12; $29.33 - 34.26 per hour
Reports To: Library Director/Assistant Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
and/or Head Custodian
GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Library Director, Assistant Library Director, and/or Head Custodian, the Custodian is responsible for the day to day maintenance of the library and its grounds, ensuring its cleanliness and safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Loads and offloads library materials from daily regional deliveries and empties outside book drops.
- Follows a regular schedule of floor care, trash removal, bathroom sanitizing and other general cleaning activities as assigned.
- Brings building maintenance, repair and safety conditions beyond his/her capabilities to the attention of his/her supervisor.
- Moves various materials throughout library including fully-loaded book carts and deliveries.
- Sets up and breaks down tables and chairs for various events.
- Maintains grounds of library including but not limited to cleaning up debris and litter.
- Responsible for snow and ice removal.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Substantial lifting and carrying of library materials (up to 50 pounds) and moving equipment, included book carts (170 pounds)
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, couching, crawling and climbing all day.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability adjust focus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma, or GED diploma
- Must pass custodial written exam
