POSITION SUMMARY:
The Part-Time Teacher Assistant position provides support in the TLC Preschool classroom at the Pitkin Community Center for the Wethersfield Parks and Recreation Department. This role is responsible for assisting the Head Teacher in the classroom. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor II or designated staff.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Supervise all students attending school.
- Assist Head Teacher with classroom management.
- Facilitate student center learning as directed.
- Engage youth and provide encouragement to students.
- Provide redirection and 1:1 assistance as needed to any student.
- Provide additional support for special events i.e. set-up and clean up.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education and/or experience with children preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and courteously with the public, peers and youth.
- Ability to work in a busy classroom environment.
