What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Building Official position at Town Of Wethersfield?
Summary: Under the general direction of the Chief Building Official, assists in the administration and enforcement of the State Building code and other related regulations through inspection, review and enforcement duties.
Examples of Specific Duties:
- Plans and organizes work according to department procedures.
- Analyzes and evaluates building plans, including design, materials, construction methods and health and safety measures.
- Makes field inspections of construction work in progress to assure conformity with code and regulations.
- Confers with and interprets code provisions and application procedures to architects, engineers, contractors and members of the public.
- Investigates complaints of building code violations.
- Enforces building code regulations.
- Assists the public in modifying building plans or in taking corrective action to comply with code and/or regulations.
- Provides technical consultation to the public and town departments on energy use and conservation.
- Organizes and maintains files on inspection and investigation work.
- Assists Chief Building Official in inspection and review of major construction projects.
- Provides normal and off hour emergency assistance as needed.
Minimum Qualification:
- Certification as an Assistant Building Official under Section 29-262 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
- Possession of a Class III Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduation from a Vocational Technical School or completion of apprenticeship training in a construction trade skill, and three (3) years of experience in the construction trades.
