Light Equipment Operator

The Department of Public Works Utilities is accepting applications for the position of Light Equipment Operator. This position requires the ability to work outside in all weather and indoor areas that may be dusty, drafty, and noisy.
Position Overview:
Under the general direction of the Crew Leader, the Light Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and providing maintenance of motor vehicles such as street sweeper, pickup, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and tractor trailer trucks. Performs manual labor associated with the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of town properties including all duties assigned to the position of laborer.
· Operates town motor vehicles such as dump trucks, pickup trucks, street sweeper, vans, etc., used for transporting materials, snowplowing, spreading sand and salt and other related purposes.
· Provides minor vehicle maintenance such as cleaning vehicles, changing oil, greasing, etc.
· Performs all laborer duties associated with the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of town properties, such as digging ditches, installing, and maintaining water and sewer lines, road maintenance, painting, etc.
· Other duties and projects as assigned.
· On call availability
· Operate, clean, and provide minor maintenance to all vehicles and equipment used in the performance of duties such as backhoes, pay loaders, graders, rollers, jackhammers, compressors, street sweepers, mowers, and chain saws.
Qualifications & Experience:
· High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
· Minimum of one (1) year construction/utilities experience.
· Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential job functions of this position.
Licenses and Certifications:
· Class B CDL
· Class A CDL preferred
· RI DOH CO-1 and TO-1 Certificates preferred
A physical and drug test will be required as well.
Salary is $28.19/hour with CDL Class B, and $29.29/hour with CDL Class A
