ASSISTANT GOLF MANAGER (PART-TIME)
The Town of Westborough seeks applications from qualified individuals for the part-time, nonbenefitted position of Assistant Golf Manager at the Westborough Golf Club. Working under the
direction of the Golf Manager, this position is responsible for supporting the daily operations of
Westborough’s 9-hole municipal golf course and Pro Shop by performing a broad range of
administrative, technical and customer service duties. Serves as a primary customer service
contact for member of the public; greets golfers, checks golfers in utilizing the Point of Sale
(POS) system; collects fees, takes reservations and assigns tee times; informs golfers of course
rules and regulations, maintains logs and assists golfers with carts and equipment. Assists the
Golf Manager in supervising seasonal staff.
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; one to three years related
experience working at a golf or recreational facility; or equivalent combination of education and
experience. Requires knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and
golf tournaments.
This is a permanent/year-round 19 hour/week position with a hiring range of $21.90 - $22.89 per

SUMMARY: Working under the direction of the Golf Manager, responsible for supporting daily
operations of Westborough’s municipal golf course and Pro Shop by performing a broad range of

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be

Assists Golf Manager in the administration, interpretation, and enforcement of all course rules and
policies that govern the use of the course, golf carts, and other golf-related activities
Serves as a primary customer service contact for member of the public; greets golfers, checks golfers in
utilizing the Point of Sale (POS) system; collects fees, takes reservations and assigns tee times; informs
golfers of course rules and regulations, maintains logs and assists golfers with carts and equipment.
Handles customer service needs, including inquiries and complaints, and seeks to resolve issues that arise.
Assists as needed with the daily operations of the Pro Shop, including inventory, merchandising, and sales
of golf equipment, apparel, and accessories.
Fosters positive relationships with members, guests, and community organizations.
Provides guidance and advice to golfers regarding course conditions, rules, and etiquette.
Monitors weather conditions and adjust operations accordingly (e.g., course closures or delays).
Assists with the planning and execution of golf tournaments, charity events, and special promotions.
Assists the Manager with the supervision and training of seasonal staff.
Assists in scheduling and preparing payroll submission for seasonal staff.
Maintains a variety of operational records such as course usage, inventory, financial records and other
relevant information and assists with preparation of reports of activities.

Answers phones, responds to or directs customer inquiries. Provides general information to the public
regarding fees, facility reservations, golf course regulations and procedures.
Ensures that the carts available for use by golfers are clean and in good working condition; monitors cart
usage to ensure carts are being properly used; ensures carts are charged as needed throughout the day.
Instructs golfers in proper operation of carts.
Maintains a courteous professional relationship with all staff and patrons.
Oversees and/or performs opening and closing procedures.
May be assigned responsibilities of the Golf Course Manager in their absence.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Assists the Golf Manager in supervising seasonal staff and is fully
responsible for supervision of seasonal staff in the absence of the Golf Manager. Assists in carrying out
supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree; one to three years
related experience working at a golf or recreational facility; or equivalent combination of education and
experience. Knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and golf tournaments.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to
speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in
standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Ability to use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar,
e-mail and database software; assists in maintaining the department’s web page.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with the public. Ability to be thorough,
dependable and show initiative. Ability to enforce golf course facility’s rules and regulations firmly,
tactfully, and impartially.
Other Qualifications: The work schedule is controlled by the change in daylight hours during the
operating season and requires irregular working hours and weekend attendance. Therefore, the work
schedule is expected to include early mornings, evenings, holidays and/or weekends. Must have a valid
driver’s license and must be 18 years of age or older to operate golf carts.
