Torpedoes Competitive Swim Team Assistant Coaches Positions The West
Springfield Park & Recreation Department seeks a reliable, trustworthy,
engaging, motivated and experienced Assistant Coaches to bring a
positive, energetic, and forward-thinking presence to the Torpedoes Swim
Team. The West Springfield Torpedoes is a competitive swim program that
serves the youth of West Springfield during two distinct swim seasons
(Winter & Summer). The team consists of approximately 80-100 swimmers,
trains over three different group levels, and utilizes one indoor,
six-lane pool located at the West Springfield High School. The Assistant
Swim Coach(es)\'s responsibilities include analyzing swim techniques and
determining skill levels, developing individualized swimming programs,
educating swimmers on various techniques and styles, overseeing training
and preparing swimmers for meets. To be successful, Swim Coaches should
be empathetic, patient, and understand the varying abilities of swimmers
on the team. Exceptional Swim Coaches are those who place performance
over results and are able to motivate and inspire. Torpedoes Swim Team
is co-sponsored by the West Springfield Park & Recreation Department and
is a coach-facilitated organization supported by a parent run volunteer
Board of Directors that cooperatively work together to create a culture
that aims to develop well-rounded swimmers and students. Coaches should
have excellent organizational, communication, and public relations
skills. This position is seasonal (Summer Season: April-July, Winter
Season: October-January). Examples of Duties Provide structured
practices tailored to meet the needs of each training group Coordinate
swimming, dryland training, and meet schedules seasonally (Winter and
Summer) Determine swimmers\' abilities and skill levels before setting
up training programs. Develop and implement training programs that focus
on improving technique, stroke placement, speed, and style. Teach brand
new swimming styles or strokes. Educate swimmers on water safety. Use a
range of activities to improve water confidence. Record training
sessions in order to analyze strokes, techniques, and monitor progress.
Set training goals and objectives for teams as well as individual
swimmers. Teach and perfect skills like flips, kicks, body rolls,
floating, and breath control. Ensure the pool or training area is clean,
well-maintained, and free of hazards. Scout swimmers and prepare teams
and individuals for swim meets. Oversee individual group placement and
advancement of swimmers Attend all Board of Director, parent, and
coach\'s meetings Develop long-term goals and foster team spirit by
exhibiting a positive, team building attitude Work cooperatively with
the Board of Directors to administer team goals Communicate in a
professional and timely manner with coaches, swimmers, and parents
Manage Overall Team Administrative Functions Qualifications Shift
5:30pm-8:30pm, Monday-Thursday \~ 7:30am-1:00pm for Saturday Meets, or
as assigned. This position is seasonal (Winter Season: Summer Season:
April-July, October-January). Salary: The salary range for this position
is \$17.00 (Assistant Coach) per hour depending on experience and
certifications held. Qualifications: Must be a minimum of 18 years of
age. Qualified candidates should be certified in CPR & First Aid.
Candidates should have excellent organizational, communication, and
public relation skills. Must be able to provide their own transportation
to and from swim practice/meets.
