SKILLED LABORER-DPW SKILLED LABORER GRADE 4 Performs skilled manual work
at the journeyman level in connection with public works applications and
maintenance projects; does related work as required. Examples of Duties
Receives work assignments from supervisor in the form of work orders,
plans or verbal instructions. Determines from these orders type and
amount of material required and the method to be used in accomplishing
the work. Operates light duty to heavy-duty equipment (depending on
class of operator\'s license) for snow removal Paints and makes minor
repairs to Public Works equipment and buildings Performs tasks normally
assigned to a laborer Installs and maintains sewer services; performs
cement work or spreads asphalt incidental to street or sidewalk
construction or repairs projects Installs curbing, constructs catch
basins, manholes, drains or other underground structures; adjusts grade
of manholes or catch basins in preparatory to street resurfacing
Qualifications Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Work requires a high
school graduate or an equivalent plus two years and/or relevant
experience or equivalent combination of knowledge and expertise to

Possession of a valid driver\'s license required; CDL preferred. Due to
the nature of the work and possible exposure to sewage and/or human
waste, the Center for Disease recommends employees should be vaccinated
for Tetanus with consideration also given to the need for vaccinations
for polio, typhoid fever, Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B. Knowledge,
Abilities, and Skill: Must have a comprehensive experience in Public
Works construction or maintenance work or any equivalent combination of
education and experience required to perform the essential functions of
this position. Must have general knowledge of the methods, techniques,
procedures, equipment and materials relating to various water systems
construction and maintenance tasks. Must have mechanical aptitude to
operate various types of equipment that would be found in flood and
sewer stations as well as other public works systems.
