What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Inspections Supervisor position at Town of Wendell?
An employee in this class coordinates, organizes, plans, and supervises the Engineering Inspections functions of the department. Performs inspections of new development infrastructure to ensure compliance with the Town’s standards and specifications. Performs work at the professional level, directly supervising assigned personnel and organizing, planning, and directing specific programs. Work in this class is performed with a high level of independence and judgment. Work is supervised by the Town Engineer and is evaluated through conferences, review of work results obtained, and overall success of the Engineering Inspections program.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; processes employee concerns and problems; directs work; provides counseling; administers disciplinary action.
- Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for performing duties in support of the Town’s Engineering Inspections program.
- Establishes schedules and methods for providing Engineering Inspection services; identifies resource needs; reviews needs with appropriate management staff; allocates resources accordingly.
- Participates in the development of goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures; makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures; participates in the implementation of approved policies and procedures; monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Receives and responds to citizen complaints and reports from other agencies and departments on concerns within the town limits.
- Oversees and participates in the development of forms and processes utilized to address various issues.
- Participates in the selection of Engineering Inspection staff; provides or coordinates staff training.
- Performs the full range of Engineering Inspection duties; performs a variety of field and office work in support of the Town’s Engineering program.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, standards, and specifications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Thorough knowledge of the Town's ordinances and codes.

- Knowledge of roadway construction means and methods.
- Thorough knowledge of the Town’s geography.
