GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Position requires assisting in planning and executing recreational programs, and supervising, and assisting participants. Must be comfortable working with all ages and ensure that the facilities and equipment are clean and safe for use. The Program Coordinator will also aid other teammates and areas as needed. Note that 95% of events and programs are mandatory attendance from Parks and Recreation staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Manager. This position works independently under limited supervision and is located full time at the Recreation Barn.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
- Assists the Program Manager & Program Coordinator II - plans, develops, and organizes a variety of recreation programs and other activities.
- Contributes, maintains, and operates to the quality and professionalism for all Town Events and Programs.
- Adheres to a budget as laid out by the Program Manager.
- Ongoing communication with patrons to keep them up to date on any changes or cancellations to programs.
- Serves as a contact point for any problems that arise at an event or program, rental and Rec Barn needs.
- Day-to-day administrative work such as paperwork, answering telephones, program registrations, scheduling rentals, issuing invoices, and collecting payments and doing bank drop offs.
- Creates and sets up signage for events, facilities maintenance, and programs.
- Conducts special projects and assignments independently or as required.
- Sets up activity equipment such as tables, instruments, electronics, etc.
- Maintains and cleans recreation equipment and facilities.
- Assists instructors and participants during recreational programs.
- Assist event team and maintenance teams as requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Experience working programs, events, and maintenance and/or within Parks & Recreation.
- Comfortable working with people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and with the written word; ability to analyze information and make recommendations.
- Strong creativity and socialization skills.
- Ability to maintain composure and remain calm during emergency or high stress situations.
- Experience with working within a budget.
- Marketing/ Social media experience a plus but not required.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and the public.
- Must have knowledge of the objectives and ideals of public recreation, including an understanding of activities that make up a parks and rec programs and events.
- Ability to build teamwork and establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town employees, outside agencies and organizations and the public.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and maintain operations at a facility.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently and balance priorities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Work requires balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, full use of fingers, grasping, and repetitive motions.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of work, and observing general surrounds and activities.
- Employee is subject to noise and must be able to work in environmental conditions of extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation or similar field is preferred.
- An Associate’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and 3 years of relevant experience will be considered.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications within three months of employment or as requested.
- Position will require some after hours, holiday and weekend responsibilities.
