Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Purchasing Technician to work with the Town of Wallkill. In this vital role, you will be responsible for supporting the sourcing, purchasing, and supply chain management processes that ensure the seamless flow of materials and services across our operations. Experience with procurement in a municipality is extremely helpful and knowledge of GML laws is a crucial part of any municipalities procurement process.
Duties
- Assist in managing procurement activities following New York States GML laws and the Town's Procurement policy.
- Maintain accurate procurement documentation including contracts, purchase orders, and supplier records for audit readiness.
- Support sourcing initiatives by evaluating supplier options, obtaining quotes, and conducting market research to identify cost-effective solutions.
- Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts that align with Town's objectives while maintaining strong vendor relationships.
- Maintain Inventory Assets for the Town, as well as depreciation values through our Edmunds System.
- Coordinate logistics and transportation schedules to ensure timely delivery of materials, minimizing delays and disruptions in the supply chain.
- Approve Purchase Orders based on the backup material that is necessary to ensure money is spent according to New York State requirements.
- Assist in implementing supply chain strategies that improve inventory management, reduce costs, and enhance overall procurement efficiency.
Experience
- New York State Municipality Procurement is extremely beneficial.
- Strong understanding of procurement management principles including sourcing, contract negotiation, and vendor management.
- Creating and recommending approval of Bids and Requests for Proposals (RFP).
- Familiarity with Inventory systems and values based on depreciation.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers to secure favorable pricing and contractual terms.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in managing procurement documentation and contracts.
- Prior experience in a purchasing or procurement technician role is preferred but not mandatory; relevant internships or entry-level experience are also valued.
