What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Seasonal Labor position at Town of Thompson's Station?
Position Summary: This is an entry-level position under the direct supervision of a Public Works crew leader. This employee performs semi-skilled and skilled tasks assisting in the maintenance of public buildings, facilities, roads and parks.
General Statement of Duties:
- Mows grass using zero turn mowers and trim shrubs, trees etc.
- Weed eats grass along roadways, parks and other Town rights-of-way.
- Removes litter and debris from roadways curbs, shoulders, medians, sidewalks, and other Town rights-of-way.
- Picks up and disposes of resident bagged curbside yard clippings and waste.
- Appropriate action for removing fallen trees and limbs, emergency patching of streets,etc.
- Assists in maintaining Public Work shop and garage areas, storage sites and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday.
- Installs barricades and routes traffic in a safe manner.
- Provides courteous customer service responding to questions and inquiries from the general public.
- Removes debris from public buildings street easements, and other grounds.
- Assists in the set up and breakdown of special events.
- Keeps trucks stocked with supplies and materials.
- Employees are expected to effectively work together to meet the needs of the Town through work behaviors demonstrating the Town’s values.
- Employees are expected to lead by example and demonstrate the highest level of confidentiality and ethics.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education: High School graduate or GED equivalent required.
Requirements: Must have a valid TN Drivers license.
Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in maintenance or landscaping.
Reports Directly to: Public Works Director
Review Responsibility: Public Works Director

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of standing, walking, hearing, kneeling, reaching, feeling, grasping, pushing, pulling, bending, climbing, crawling and performing repetitive motions.
- Daily operations require unaided lifting of objects weighing as much as fifty (50) to seventy (70) pounds.
- Employees are subject to working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, dust, dirt, and water.
- Work a variety of hours, including evenings, days, weekends, and holidays; consistently maintain mental alertness, remain calm and composed in difficult and emergency circumstances.
