#### Duties and Responsibilities:
The Town of Sunset Beach is currently accepting applications for a full-time Permit Technician to support the Building Inspection Department. Employees in this role provide a variety of responsible administrative and record-keeping duties in support of the building inspections and permitting process for the Town. Employees provide information to developers, contractors, and homeowners regarding the building permit process, receive building permit applications, route applications, accept applicable fees, issue approved permits, and track permits.
The Permit Technician reviews residential and commercial building permit applications; issues building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, mechanical-gas permits; issues temporary certificate of occupancy, certificates of compliance, and certificate of occupancy. This position assists and educates the public on the contractor portal for scheduling all inspections related to active projects as well as ensuring all communication through the portal with contractors is clear and precise while maintaining clear internal notes for all departments involved.
Assist developers, builders, contractors, and the general public with various development services including Zoning information, CAMA, and FEMA regulatory compliance information and various permit applications. Thisrole also identifies flood zones and issues Flood Plain and Zoning permits, along with answering technical Zoning related questions.
In addition, this position will assist the Planning/Zoning department as needed. Must be proficient in various applicable computer programs.
#### Desirable Training and Experience:
Graduation from high school supplemented by business coursework and experience in administrative support work
in a governmental setting
involving customer contact, preferably in the building trades or construction industries or an equivalent amount of education and experience.Requires a Law and Administration certificate issued by the NCDOI that can be obtained after hired date. Candidates with previous Permitting experience are urged to apply.
