The Opportunity
The Town of Sunapee is seeking a forward-thinking leader who can build upon the Department's proud traditions while helping prepare it for future challenges and opportunities. The Fire Chief serves as the professional head of the Department and provides leadership, vision, strategic direction, and administrative oversight for all departmental operations. Reporting to the Board of Firewards and working closely with the Town Manager, the Chief is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of emergency services while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, safety, accountability, and public trust.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
· Lead and mentor a dedicated team of firefighters and officers.
· Strengthen recruitment, retention, and professional development efforts.
· Advance long-term planning for apparatus, facilities, equipment, and staffing needs.
· Enhance firefighter safety, training, and operational readiness.
· Build upon strong mutual aid and regional partnerships.
· Pursue grant opportunities and other funding sources to support departmental initiatives.
· Expand community risk reduction, fire prevention, and public education efforts.
· Help guide the Department through evolving challenges in emergency response, emergency medical services, and community expectations.
The Department operates two stations with roughly 22 call firefighters and EMS providers, responding to everything from structure fires and highway collisions to water rescues on Lake Sunapee.
Salary $97,000–$145,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
