Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Certified Firefighter/EMT role located in Sullivan’s Island, SC. The Firefighter/EMT responds to fire alarms, medical emergencies, and rescue incidents, performing firefighting, emergency medical care, and hazard mitigation duties in accordance with established protocols. Daily responsibilities include operating fire and EMS equipment, conducting fire prevention and safety inspections, maintaining apparatus and station facilities, and participating in training, drills, and continuing education. The role also involves assisting with public education programs, supporting community events, completing incident reports and documentation, and working collaboratively with other departments to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and visitors.
Qualifications
- Current certification as a Firefighter and EMT (preferred), with demonstrated skills in fire suppression, rescue operations, and pre-hospital emergency care.
- Proficiency in operating firefighting tools, hoses, ladders, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and EMS equipment, with the ability to safely drive and operate fire and emergency vehicles.
- Strong physical fitness, stamina, and the ability to perform strenuous activities in hazardous conditions, including lifting, carrying, climbing, and working in adverse weather.
- Knowledge of incident command systems, emergency response protocols, and basic hazardous materials awareness, with the ability to follow standard operating procedures under pressure.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to interact professionally with community members, coworkers, and other agencies, and to complete clear, accurate reports.
- Commitment to ongoing training, professional development, and adherence to safety practices, including participation in drills, classes, and continuous skill improvement.
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of accredited fire academy or EMS training programs preferred; valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
