Part Time-School Crossing Guard
The Southbridge Police Department is seeking to fill multiple crossing guard positions. The work schedule is from 8 am - 9 am and 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm weekdays (times subject to change) at a rate of $16.77 per hour.
Essential Functions:
-Controls the movement of school children on foot, bicycles, mopeds, and in public or private motor vehicles when approaching and leaving school buildings.
-Controls all traffic movement at designated posts prior to and following school sessions.
-Report directly to the assigned crossing stations, be on time and remain until the conclusion of the assignment.
-Ensure that children use the proper crossing locations and that no children are in the street while traffic is moving.
-Be alert for the presence or potential traffic hazards in the area surrounding the assigned crossings. Submit to the Police Department any hazards with a recommendation for remedial steps to be taken.
-Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School education; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of local traffic laws and regulations is preferred. Ability to communicate clearly and pleasantly with the public even in difficult interactions. Ability to work independently in the field in compliance with the direction of the School Resource Officer and department policies and procedures. Good communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
Performance of work involves standing and walking for extended periods of time.
The position will be open until filled.
