PAY & BENEFITS:
Pay begins at $57,304.73 for GIS Technician (Planning) and is based upon applicable experience.In addition to the base salary, this full-time position is eligible for an annual performance bonus as well as a longevity bonus.

Description:
The purpose of this classification is to create and maintain maps for the Town. Duties and responsibilities include: creating maps utilizing GIS, meeting with developers, builders, citizens, and other patrons regarding maps, zoning, and other related reports, and assisting professional planning staff with various planning activities. Reports to Town Planner.
Creates maps using ArcGIS or other GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software relative to zoning, utilities, annexation, planning studies, etc.
Communicates changes and/or additions to the Town limits and address database to the Rutherford County Emergency Communications District, Rutherford County Election Commission, Director of Schools, and applicable Town departments.
Prepares for and participates in monthly staff reviews for Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Historic Zoning Commission.
Interacts with professionals, applicants, and citizens to answer questions regarding zoning, flood maps, and a variety of other planning and zoning records and reports.
Creates and provides maps to other Town departments.
Maintains the plans, maps, plats, and other records of the Town with regard to planning and zoning, including map archives, and raster files.
Assigns addresses for new construction. Communicates these new addresses and address ranges to E-911, police, USPS, Election Commission, and other applicable agencies and Town departments.
Performs customer service functions and assists citizens, engineers, contractors, developers, and other agencies by providing information on laws, maps, tools, etc.
Provide yearly reports of boundary modifications and annexation for US Census data, known as the Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS).
Edits and maintains public files on the Rutherford County database (addresses and centerline files).
Provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public related to specific planning program areas, ordinances, and mapping requests.
Maintains, updates, and creates maps, apps, solutions, etc., for the Planning Department utilizing ArcGIS online.
Maintains records in compliance to Federal, State, and Town regulations.
Works safely, observing all OSHA, Federal, State, and Town regulations. Reports any accidents immediately to the supervisor.
Correctly wears appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
Performs routine maintenance on equipment. Reports any malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.
Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on customers’ perception of the Town of Smyrna.
Promotes a teamwork environment. Assists co-workers when necessary.
Helps maintain the cleanliness of machines, work area, and facility. Reports incidents or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.
Provides coverage in the absence of other personnel.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

- Must have a valid state-issued driver's license
An Associate’s degree with an emphasis in Geography, Geosciences, Planning, or a closely related field.
Two (2) years of equivalent experience in Geographic Information Systems in a government setting.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
