SMITHFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT: POLICE OFFICER: Seeking qualified candidates to establish a one-year eligibility list. Applicants must be 18 or older; a U.S. Citizen; possess valid operator’s license; must possess a Bachelor’s Degree (in any discipline) by December 31, 2026. Applicants must successfully complete physical fitness and written testing administered by Fit2ServeRI or be eligible for RI POST certification. To register for physical fitness and written testing visit www.fit2serveri.com. Passing physical fitness scores within 1 year prior to the application deadline will be accepted. Passing written test scores within 2 years prior to the application deadline will be accepted.

Completed applications must be submitted through BambooHR or returned to the Smithfield Police Department no later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026. Previous candidates must reapply. Recruitment and selection process takes approximately five months. Starting salary for a first-year Patrol Officer is $82,135.20, effective January 1, 2027. E.O.E.
