Purpose: Under general supervision, perform a variety of cleaning and light maintenance tasks of town facilities, and perform other related duties as assigned. This position is under the supervision of Streets & Buildings Maintenance Foreman

Essential Functions of the Job: Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks, which are also performed but are not incidental to the primary functions. • Clean Designated Town Facilities as scheduled
• Clean the interior of buildings including:
• Hard surface floors (dust and wet mopping)
• Vacuuming carpet and rugs
• Cleaning windows and glass doors
• Spot cleaning of walls
• Clean and disinfect all washroom floors and fixtures
• Replenish washroom supplies as needed
• Clean and disinfect all water fountains
• Clean all mirrors
• Clean all partitions
• Dust furniture and fixtures
• Empty Trash and recycle bins
• Replace HVAC filters and clean HVAC vent covers
• Maintain exterior entrances of buildings
• Organize, stock and maintain janitorial storage areas
• Perform general light maintenance – change light bulbs, paint touch-up, etc.
• Other duties as assigned

Other Functions: Evaluate and make recommendations relative to short- and long-term facility maintenance needs. Assist in coordinating service/repairs by outside vendors as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of a variety of building cleaning procedures and techniques.
• Knowledge of equipment and tools necessary for the cleaning of public buildings.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Ability to successfully complete trade related training and certification courses.
• Ability to follow safety practices and recognize hazards.
• Skilled in using simple hand tools.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Equipment: Motor vehicle, computer, hand tools, ladders, and other cleaning equipment

Educational Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent

Experience Required: More than one year Driver's license valid in the State of Tennessee

Problem Solving Requirements: Carry out routine tasks that require a sequence of steps usually performed in a standardized way. Solve problems in situations where most problems have occurred before, and their solutions are familiar.

Writing Skills Required: Write standard documentation using established formats, or document work performed, actions taken or results by writing one or two brief sentences.

Speaking/Presentation Skills Required: Interview or discuss detailed information, frequently involving customer/citizen problems or complaints. Answer questions with a brief response or provide standard information to customers/citizens, visitors, callers, supervisors, or other employees.

Planning & Scheduling: Moderate - a moderate amount of planning own or other's activities is required.

Difficulty of Work: Work involves relatively standardized tasks, processes and operations following established procedures.

Assignment of Work: General guidance allowing for employee planning of procedures and methods to attain objective.

Effects of Work: Errors are readily detected in normal course of work by standard check resulting in little or no difficulty in loss of time to correct.
