Key Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of the roadway and utility infrastructure programs, including planning, design, contract and specifications development, procurement, project execution, and construction inspection. Perform in-house designs using AutoCAD. Develop, execute, and file project as-built plans, specifications, and details according to Department standards.
- Assist in the development of design standards for municipal utilities and enhancement of the Department’s protocols and procedures.
- Perform field investigations, quality assurance, and construction inspections on municipal projects to ensure compliance with specifications, safety standards, and local/state codes. You will also document field observations, track deficiencies, and maintain comprehensive inspection and test records.
- Build, update, and maintain authoritative GIS infrastructure and utility datasets by incorporating CAD as-built plans, converting legacy paper-based inventories (e.g., road markings, street signs, and sidewalks), and collecting new spatial data in the field using RTK GPS.
- Collaborate with the Planning Board, Conservation Commission, Select Board, SELCO, and other Town departments.
- Assist in the Storm Water Division to ensure compliance with the EPA’s MS4 permit, including reviewing permits and inspecting stormwater runoff.
- Respond to resident, developer, and contractor requests for information.
- Administer or assist with other special projects and programs and perform other work as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, GIS, or a related field required
- Related professional experience preferred
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Engineer in Training (EIT) and OSHA 10 Certificate preferred
- Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License required
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD, ESRI/ArcGIS, and MS Office/Google Suite
- Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles and local/state/federal regulations
- Ability to interpret engineering plans and specifications
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
