Job Title: Part-Time Lifeguard

Job Summary:

The Town of Seneca Falls is seeking responsible and safety-conscious individuals to join our team as part-time lifeguards at Vince’s Park Pool. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the safety of all pool patrons by preventing accidents, enforcing pool rules, assisting with swim lessons, and responding to emergencies as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Provides water surveillance and guards pool areas, ensuring patron safety.
• Provides direct supervision and protection of swimmers, enforcing pool rules.
• Initiates and responds to swimmer-in-distress signals, performing appropriate rescue procedures.
• Performs resuscitation and other first aid procedures as necessary.
• Evacuates the swimming area in response to emergencies, maintains crowd control, and notifies appropriate staff.
• Assists with swim lessons, working with instructors to help teach water safety and swimming skills.
• Keeps the pool area free of glass and debris and ensures proper order among swimmers.
• Ensures all rules are prominently posted and encourages compliance.
• Supervises the locker room to maintain order and safety.
• Prepares and maintains routine records and reports, including accident and rescue reports.
• Performs general facility upkeep, including cleaning bathrooms, locker rooms, and other areas as needed.
• Promotes good public relations and provides excellent customer service.
• May perform other duties as assigned, including supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must meet the following qualifications:

• Must be at least 15 years old (preference is given to individuals 18 years or older).
• Residency Requirement: Candidates must have been legal residents of Seneca County or one of the six contiguous counties for one month preceding the date of the written test. Preference may be given to residents of the hiring municipality.
• Certifications Required:
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (or an equivalent certification from a NYS-approved agency).
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer (or an equivalent certification).
• First Aid Certification (if not included in Lifeguard Training)..
• All certifications must be current and maintained during employment.
• Lifeguard and First Aid certifications must be dated within the last three years.
• CPR certification must be dated within the last year (recertification acceptable).
• Must have a minimum of 20/40 uncorrected vision in each eye.

Work Schedule:

• Seasonal position, with flexible part-time hours.
• Must be available for shifts, including weekends and holidays.
