Assessor's Aide - Part-time
The work involves performing clerical duties in support of the functions of the office of an Assessor. Work is carried out in accordance with established procedures and involves assisting in the preparation and maintenance of assessment rolls and related duties. Assignments may include fieldwork.
Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level employee.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Management: Assist in gathering, organizing, and recording data related to property assessments and local property sales records.
- Record Maintenance: Update assessment rolls to accurately reflect changes in property ownership, addresses, lot sizes, and property types.
- Verification & Quality Control: Check and verify assessment records, including reviewing building and land measurements for accuracy.
- Public Assistance: Respond to routine inquiries from taxpayers and the general public, providing standard information in a professional manner.
- Administrative & Field Support: Utilize electronic data processing systems for daily tasks and assist with on-site fieldwork as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Administrative Knowledge: Familiarity with standard office procedures, terminology, and electronic data entry equipment.
- Core Competencies: Proficiency in business arithmetic and English, with a strong aptitude for accurate record-keeping and report preparation.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to maintain positive working relationships and interact tactfully with members of the public.
- Personal Attributes: Strong attention to detail, initiative, and resourcefulness in problem-solving.
Minimum Requirements
- Successful completion of the eighth grade (or its equivalent).
- Special Requirement: A valid New York State driver’s license may be required at the time of appointment.
Pay: $23.75 - $25.00 per hour
