Positions assigned to this class are responsible for conducting detailed investigations for criminal, civil, internal and background caseloads, supporting Detectives and field personnel in preparing cases, contacting and coordinating with personnel and other agencies, preparing reports and making recommendations on findings as well as performing audits and inspections and assisting in special projects for the department.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a fully qualified, experienced level non-sworn police investigation classification in the Police job family. Incumbent(s) performs the full range of investigative duties under general supervision. Classification requires solid knowledge of transactional and/or work standards for completing tasks and assignments of a varied nature. Work may vary from basic to more complex duties and issues but are generally within expected parameters.

- Queen Creek’s Town Council approved a 3.0% range adjustment effective 6/20/2026; the pay range for this position will be increased/adjusted following this effective date.**
- Hiring Bonus/Incentive pay of $7,500 for Professional staff (All hiring bonuses are listed as the net-pay you will receive):
- $1,000 after hire date.
- $500 after successful completion of Position-Specific Training
- $1,000 after successful completion of your probation
- $2,500 after the successful completion of 1 year (after probation)
- $2,500 after the successful completion of 2 years (after probation)
- Vacation & Sick time front-load
- For the Police Professional staff, at the time of hire you will receive a one-time addition of 80 hours of vacation and 80 hours of sick time.
- Vacation and sick time biweekly accruals at the normal rates for new hires.
- Education Bonus (if applicable)
- A one-time bonus for education/earned degree payable after successful completion of your probation.
- The degree must be from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice studies, social sciences, business management, leadership, forensic science, psychology, or other degree related to the core functions of your position.
- The degree must be earned/awarded prior to your hire date. If you earn a degree following your hire date, you may qualify for a different educational incentive provided by the Town. More information will be provided during your initial orientation.
- If you have earned multiple degrees, you will receive the incentive specified for the highest degree earned/presented that relates to your core functions of your position.
- The incentive is as follows:
- Associate Degree: $500
- Bachelor Degree: $1,000
- Masters (or higher): $1,500
- Moving Expenses (if applicable)
- If a police department employee moves to within 30 miles of the Town borders after receiving a final offer of employment, that individual may be eligible for a one-time payment of potential expenses.
- Guidelines for this payment are as follows:
- In-state (Arizona) move under 90 miles: $250
- In-state (Arizona) move over 90 miles: $500
- Out-of-state move: $1,500
- Travel Reimbursement (if applicable)
- We will reimburse travel costs related to testing activities that occur after you have received a conditional offer letter. Must keep all receipts.

- Conducts comprehensive interviews with applicable individuals to establish the background, reputations, character, or suitability of an applicant, employee, and/or volunteer.
- Collects, reviews, and verified data regarding education, employment history, criminal activities and related records of the public safety applicant, employee, and/or volunteer.
- Reviews completed background interview forms of public safety candidates and/or volunteers checking for inconsistencies, errors, omissions, falsifications and minimum requirements to ensure accuracy and completion.
- Analyzes investigation results and draws logical and objective conclusions will confer with agency officials or hiring managers, makes recommendations regarding suitability for employment or involvement in agency partnerships.
- Prepares the written background investigation report in a narrative format prescribed by agency policy and AZPOST.
- Conducts thorough and impartial investigations into allegations of employee misconduct or violations of department policies and procedures.
- Interviews witnesses, complainants, suspects, and department employees to gather relevant information and evidence related to criminal and administrative investigations.
- Gathers, processes, and analyzes evidence such as documents, photographs, videos, and other investigative material.
- Prepares detailed and accurate reports to document investigative findings.
- Conducts follow-up phone calls, emails, and in-person contacts with members of the public, law enforcement, and various investigative partners.
- Manages caseloads effectively, prioritizing tasks and allocating resources to ensure timely and thorough investigations.
- Conducts audits and inspections, including those related to the property and evidence function, or as directed by the Professional Standards Unit sergeant.
- Provide technical and analytical support to assist sworn officers and/or detectives gather evidence to support criminal investigations in accordance with state and federal law and department policies.
- Maintains confidentiality related to criminal, administrative, and background investigations.
- Testifies in legal proceedings upon receipt of subpoena from a court or administrative body.
- Performs related work as assigned.
