Cleaner (Night-time)

The Town of Poughkeepsie is seeking one (1) Cleaner for our Police Department.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

This is routine work requiring efficient performance of simple cleaning tasks under general supervision. The work of employees in this class involves only the thorough execution of tasks which follow a well established routine.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

1. Dusts chairs, tables, desks and other furniture;

2. Washes windows, walls, woodwork, water closets, tubs, bowls and chalk boards;

3. Changes light bulbs;

4. Sweeps, mops, washes, strips, waxes and oils floors;

5. Gathers and disposes of refuse;

6. Cleans and polishes furniture and brass;

7. Participates in snow and ice control activities*;

8. May be assigned laundry room duties as required;

9. May occasionally maintain watch over buildings;

10. Does related work as required.

*You may be called in during inclement weather and snowstorms to assist in these activities (i.e. clean-up and snow removal).

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Ability to acquire knowledge of routine cleaning operations, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; thoroughness; punctuality; cleanliness; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No minimum qualifications required.

This title is a civil service title. The title of Cleaner is a CSEA union title with the Town of Poughkeepsie. Both the wages and night-shift differential amounts are in accordance with the union contract. Wages: $20.7783 hourly starting pay plus 5% night-shift differential, totaling $21.8172/hr.
