General Description

This position works with all facets of technology involving various types of computer systems (hardware and software), networking systems, and application systems.

                                                               Nature of Work

Under the direction of the IT Director, individual performs assigned duties and is responsible for but not limited to, supporting end-user technology needs; and the deployment, support, maintenance, and monitoring of corporate technologies at all Town locations, including but not limited to networks, servers, communications and applications. Coordinates or assists with projects to evaluate, purchase, or deploy new technologies. Involves regular contact with employees at all levels throughout the Town organization.

  • System Support and Administration – Responsible for day-to-day Help Desk support of Town endpoint hardware, software, and LAN and wireless connectivity. Maintains an up to date and comprehensive knowledge of most Town standard software. Provides timely user assistance and resolution of all technical problems that arise in supported systems. Troubleshoot and resolves most end-user problems independently. Documents and logs necessary key actions for Knowledge Base Records.


  • System Deployment & Maintenance – Ensures that routine deployment, maintenance, patching, and updates are performed on all technology in area of responsibility either by self or by vendor. Coordinates with vendors for maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and support contracts as needed.


  • Server Administration – Assist team with performing server administration as needed such as systems maintenance, monitoring, supporting client/server-based applications, user account maintenance, security, peripherals, connectivity, backup and restores, installation, troubleshooting, and documentation. 


  • Cloud Services Support & Administration – Maintains, monitors, and supports cloud hosted applications and services, including but not limited to; backups, email services, archiving solutions, access control, training services, communications (VoIP, messaging, video), and security solutions.


  • Security Support & Administration – Implements, maintains, and monitors security measures, review logs for anomalies, security events, and vulnerabilities. Assists in compliance with state and federal regulations (CJIS, HIPPA, PCI).


  • Physical Support – Assist with the installation and troubleshooting of voice and data cabling, moving or relocation of technology equipment, and End-User requests of assembly and deployment of technology furniture such as stand-up desks, monitor stands, and peripheral equipment.


  • Documentation & Reporting - Responsible for documentation, procedures, diagramming, configuration and inventory of technology in area of responsibility. Assists in preparing reports for various IT and technology related matters.

  • Assists and performs other duties as assigned.    

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:


Education and Experience:

Three (3) years of related experience supporting personal computers or servers in Microsoft Windows environment with advanced skills supporting Microsoft applications; or,


Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.


Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver’s License

Industry certifications (desirable)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Material and Equipment Used:


  • Computer networks include but not exclusive to servers, firewalls, routers, switches, ethernet, wireless and fiber connections.



  • Personal Computers, including desktops, laptops, iPads and tablets.



  • Wide range of peripherals, including but not limited to printers and scanners.



  • Telecommunications, including but not limited to desktop phones, mobile phones, and communication applications.



  • General office equipment.



  • A wide range of software applications including but not exclusive to Microsoft products such as Server, desktop and laptop operating systems, Office 365, and SQL Server; ERP solutions, various Cloud solutions, hypervisors, along with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office applications for Public Safety Departments.


Knowledge of:


  • Working knowledge of the following is essential: Desktop and Server Hardware and peripherals, Microsoft Operating Systems; Microsoft Office, and User Management.


  • General Knowledge and understanding of the following: Networking hardware and concepts, telecommunication hardware, VoIP and concepts, Microsoft SQL, backup concepts and methodologies, wireless technologies, IP cameras, access control, hypervisor such as VMWare or Hyper-V, and NAS appliances.


  • Installation and support of Microsoft operating systems and application software or other standard operating systems in use in the Town. 


  • Basic training techniques for one-on-one assistance.


Skills in:

  • Oral and written communication skills plus organizing and planning.


  • Basic technology troubleshooting methodologies.


  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Access, input and retrieve information from a computer.


  • See (with or without correction), to hear (with or without hearing aid), and talk.

  • Lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds.


Salary : $52,371 - $57,608
