Compensation: $18.00 per hour
Reports To: Aquatics Coordinator
Supervision exercised: None
Position Summary: Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and enforces pool regulations and guidelines, and ensures water safety procedures are followed. Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger. Ensures the safety of every individual, both in and around the pool and facilities. Morning & evening hours available. Some weekends may be required.
Essential Functions:
- Provide aquatics safety and supervision for all patrons; monitor activities in the water, on pool decks, and ancillary areas of aquatic facilities to prevent accidents.
- Implement and monitor policies and procedures; enforce aquatics regulations; caution patrons regarding unsafe activities.
- Perform all required life-guard-training skills as needed.
- May assist and aid in swim lesson programs under the direction of the assigned Swim Instructor.
- Provide high quality customer service in a safe and timely manner.
- Inspect and maintain swimming and pool equipment for functionality, ensure proper placement and availability in the pool area, and recommend maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Ensure pool and restroom areas are safe and clean.
- Maintain logs and records of activities.
- Must have basic math skills required for handling of cash and making change.
- Participate in required training sessions, including safety drills and other emergency procedures.
- Maintain all certifications required by the Town of Plainfield.
- Must be able to recognize and respond to emergency situations, perform emergency care, and contact emergency assistance when required.
- Prepare and complete accident/incident reports during emergency situations. Notify management of all emergencies immediately.
- Report to work in required uniform and 15 minutes prior to the start of scheduled hours.
- Present a professional manner at all times.
- Verbally communicate with patrons, and other employees/supervisors in the department and Town Hall in a respectful and professional manner.
- Work effectively both independently and as a team member and demonstrate a positive attitude.
Requirements:
- Must be 15 years old or older (minimum of 16 preferred).
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Must have reliable transportation.
Working conditions and Physical Demands:
- Work is performed in an indoor heated aquatic environment.
- Must be able to see and hear individuals and distress signals/alarms both in the pool and pool area. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
- Have visual access to and monitor all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
- Sufficient physical strength and agility to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time as well as the ability to hold breath under water when necessary.
