Plant Operator/Mechanic-Class 1
The Town of Plainfield is accepting applications for a Plant Operator/Mechanic class 1 to join the Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA). This position is responsible for operating, maintaining, repairing, and monitoring equipment used in the treatment of wastewater while ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.
Position Summary
The Plant Operator/Mechanic class 1 performs a wide variety of mechanical, operational, and laboratory duties associated with the collection and treatment of wastewater. Employees work independently and as part of a team to maintain plant operations, perform preventative maintenance, respond to emergencies, and ensure the efficient operation of the facility.
Essential Duties
- Operate wastewater treatment equipment and systems.
- Monitor meters, gauges, pumps, valves, and control panels.
- Perform preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs on pumps, motors, generators, and related equipment.
- Collect samples and perform laboratory testing and analysis.
- Maintain plant buildings, grounds, and equipment.
- Maintain operational records and prepare reports.
- Assist with sludge processing and tanker truck operations.
- Respond to emergency call-outs and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance, wastewater treatment, or a related field preferred. Possession or ability to obtain required Connecticut wastewater operator class 1 certifications.
Ability to safely operate equipment and to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds. Availability to work weekends and other hours as needed. Ability to perform physical labor in all weather conditions.
Compensation:
