What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator position at Town of Pittsfield?
The Town of Pittsfield Public Works Department is seeking a qualified, dependable, and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a full-time Equipment Operator.
The successful candidate will perform a variety of skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of municipal roads, drainage systems, and other public infrastructure. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Safe operation of heavy equipment including loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and trucks equipped with plows and wings.
- Snow and ice removal operations.
- Roadway maintenance and repair.
- Drainage and culvert maintenance.
- General highway and public works construction and maintenance.
- Equipment inspection, routine maintenance, and cleaning.
- Other duties as assigned to support Public Works operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience operating heavy equipment in a municipal or comparable public works environment.
- Demonstrated experience with municipal snow plowing and winter maintenance operations.
- Valid New Hampshire Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid NH DOT Medical Certificate.
- Successful completion of a driver's record review and criminal background check.
- Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding work.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins, particularly during winter storms and other weather-related events.
Compensation & Benefits
- $23.10–$33.60 per hour, based on qualifications, experience, and placement within the Town's established pay scale. Most candidates are hired at a step that reflects their relevant experience and certifications.
