Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of r ecreation programs/services and the supervision of the associated staff and participants.

  • P erforms front-line, day-to - day services in any combination of the following program divisions :
  • Sports
  • Events
  • Ensures operations, maintenance, administration of recreation services, programs, rentals, and events to achieve goals of the Recreation Division within available resources .
  • Assists with the supervision of employees and volunteers to include recruitment, scheduling, staff training and development, providing performance feedback, and employee recognition processes for assigned staff.
  • Assesses and responds to community and participant needs to ensure satisfaction and retention through regular site visits, providing instruction, conducting evaluations, managing sites, delivering equipment and supplies, and assisting with program evaluation, inventory management, and site maintenance.
  • Manages conflicts and behavioral issues of participants, provides guidance to staff and communicates with parents/guardians when necessary .
  • Assists in the development, implementation and adjustment of age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans for programs, classes, and services within the assigned area; monitor class enrollment and cancellations and instructor lead programs with minimal supervision.
  • Performs administrative duties to include brochure content entry and review in registration software .
  • Participates in setup, teardown, various programs, activities, and special events . Ensures cleanliness of program areas by overseeing and participating in daily cleaning efforts.
  • Adheres to and enforces departmental, program, and facility safety policies and emergency response plans. Responds to emergencies as required and completes incident reports promptly.
  • Reports suspected abuse cases to supervisor(s) and the appropriate governing bodies.
  • Maintains associated service materials, logs class attendance, and prepares periodic reports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required . An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of related experience in program specific operations.

Supervisory Or Lead Worker Experience Is Preferred .

Possession of or the ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within 60 (sixty) days of hire.

Minimum, Additional Qualifications – Sports

  • Completion of concussion recognition training within ninety (90) days of hire; must be renewed, annually.

  • Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of recreation principles and practices, including program-specific best practices (Sports, Events) , program instruction and customer relations techniques .
  • Knowledge of recreation center equipment and facilities.
  • Skill in the training and supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and other types of modern office equipment.
  • Skill in the provision of customer service.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to analyze situations thoroughly, identify potential problems and find effective solutions.
  • Ability to operate computers for data entry, word processing and/or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to handle incidents reports and confrontations in a recreation facility or program.
  • Ability to concentrate on detail.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required .

Tools & Equipment

Requires frequent use of general office equipment , recreational equipment ( i.e., sports supplies, fitness machines, concession supplies) .

Physical Demands

Requires regular sitting, standing, walking, talking, handling, feeling or operating objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Requires occasional reaching with hands and arms, climbing and balancing. Requires moderate physical activity with heavy lifting, up to fifty (50) pounds. Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, allowing a broad field of vision.

Environment

Work is frequently performed in a climate-controlled environment, but employees holding this position may be exposed to extreme cold or heat and wetness/humidity. The noise level is usually high and may range from moderate to extreme. The employee may occasionally work with or around hazardous items or hazardous conditions such as mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, chemicals, or radiant energy.

Hiring Range: $24.20-25.68 hourly

Full Salary Range: $22.81-$28.90 hourly
