Job Overview
Shifts may vary and may include working on weekends. Primary responsibilities are to safely and efficiently operate the COA van on a specified route, in accordance with the schedule for that day. Our operators represent the Council on Aging and mut use their sound judgement and communication skills to assist customers with information, resolve problems and conflicts where possible, and assure passenger safety. This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations.
Responsibilities
- Be able to provide transportation in accordance with Massachusetts law, ADA policy, Town of Orange COA policy, and the principles of safe vehicle operation.
- Be able to demonstrate a level of skill and ability consistent with the provision of high-quality transportation care.
- Be able to demonstrate an ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, using good judgment and common sense.
- Have knowledge of, and adhere to, all applicable traffic rules and regulations.
- Be able to sit for durations of up to two (2) continuous hours, as well as stand, kneel, and crouch as needed.
- Have working knowledge of basic arithmetic, map reading and time telling.
- Be able to communicate verbally to the extent of interacting with passengers and dispatchers.
- Be able to complete accurate, legible written reports in English.
- Perform other work as required or assigned from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications and Abilities
- Have at least three (3) years of driving experience and be over 21.
- Possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
- Have reliable transportation both to and from work.
- Pass a pre-employment and random drug and alcohol test.
- Be eligible to work in the US without restrictions and be able to pass a background check, including motor vehicle check to DOT standards, SORI and CORI checks.
