Day Camp Supervisor,
Parks and Recreation Department
Position Summary/Purpose:
The Day Camp Supervisor is responsible for the overall operation of the Summer Day Camp Program. The Day Camp Supervisor reports directly to the Director of Parks and Recreation.

Oversees the day-to-day operations of the day camp. Responsible for the effective supervision of day camp staff and general day camp administration. Ensures smooth operation of day camp.
Assigns duties to day camp counselors and other staff members as needed.
Advises staff on difficult issues and makes decisions on exceptional situations to manage and implement appropriate services and assistance.
Coaches employees to improve performance, and administers discipline in accordance with Town policies.
Track work hours of all assigned employees.
Works with counselors to ensure that they are qualified for their jobs and provides guidance as needed.
Ensures that the camp follows all safety regulations regarding equipment, facilities, activities, etc.
Ensures that all activities are age-appropriate and supervised by trained staff members.
Communicates and interacts effectively with employees, supervisor, parents, campers, and other stakeholders to ensure ongoing support for the program.
Develops new or improves upon existing programs based on feedback from participants and staff members.
Other Functions:
Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates. Continues training and professional development; keeps current with trends.
Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort to serve the public.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Associate Degree or related college‑level coursework preferred. Candidates with equivalent combinations of education, experience, and training will be considered.
Demonstrated competence in the following areas:
Knowledge: Knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations pertaining to day camp operations. Principles and practices of supervision, training and performance evaluation. Basic arithmetic. Principles and procedures of record-keeping and reporting. Safe work practices. Knowledge of operations and materials/equipment maintenance.
Ability: Supervise, train and evaluate the performance of assigned staff. Coordinate the operations of Day Camp. Ensure staff’s adherence to established safe work rules and practices. Ability to perform required mathematical computations with accuracy. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Communicate clearly and concisely. Work effectively in emergency and stressful situations. Ability to maintain various logs and records accurately.
Skill: High level of customer service skills, conflict resolution and negotiation skills, good written and verbal communication skills, good organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, good supervisory skills.
Supervision:
Supervision Scope: Performs a variety of technical, administrative and supervisory responsibilities requiring knowledge of department standard operating procedures and the exercise of judgment and initiative to accomplish competent service delivery; works independently and in combination with others.
Supervision Received: Works under the general direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation,.
Supervision Given: Supervises Day Camp Counselors and works cooperatively with the Day Camp Nurse
Job Environment:
Administrative work is performed in an indoor and outdoor day camp environment.
Makes frequent contacts with the general public to handle campers’questions and complaints. Frequent and periodic contacts are with employees, campers, campers’ parents, vendors, and contractors. Communication is frequently in person.
Errors in judgment or omissions could result in delays in service, rework, injury to employees, damage to town facilities, and potential liability.
Pay: $22.00 - $27.92 per hour
