What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUMMER: Pre-K Tumbling Instructor position at Town of Normal?
Teach tumbling to 18 months - 5 year olds at varying skill levels. Apparatuses include balance beam, vault, low barre and tumbling experience on floor. The working season for this position is early June-late August.
Friday mornings from 10:00am-1:30pm and/or Saturday mornings from 9:30am-1pm.
- Assist with planning daily skills and activities prior to the start of each class
- Assist evaluating the skill level of each participant
- Teach participants skills on the balance beam, vault, floor and barre
- Assist in running a safe and organized class
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians and staff regarding questions and concerns
- Take daily attendance
- Assist with keeping storage areas clean and organized
- Perform First Aid or take care of minor injuries as needed
- Preferred age is 16 years or older
- Certification in First Aid and/or CPR is preferred (classes provided by NPRD)
- Successful completion of criminal background check
- Ability to interact well with children ages 18 months - 5 years old
- Knowledge of skills associated with the apparatuses above
- Understanding of how to teach each skill at an age-appropriate level
- Knowledge of how to safely spot participants
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Availability to work from 10:00am-1:30pm, Friday mornings and/or 9:30am-1:00pm, Saturday mornings.
- Experience working with youth or background in field of Education, Parks & Recreation or another related field
- Previous personal experience in gymnastics, cheer and/or tumbling is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability squat/crouch/kneel for extended periods of time when spotting participants
- Position sometimes required the ability to lift, push and pull at least 25 lbs.
- Preferred personal enjoyment of gymnastics, cheer and/or tumbling
