Officer in Charge - New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Certified Police Officer
The Town of New Berlin is seeking a motivated and experienced law enforcement professional to serve as Officer in Charge. This position requires strong leadership skills, sound judgment, and the ability to supervise officers while maintaining public safety and community trust.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current certification through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS)
- Valid MPTC Basic Course Certification
- Minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience
- Prior supervisory or command experience
- Valid New York State driver’s license
- Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct police personnel and daily operations
- Maintain law and order through proactive policing
- Respond to emergencies and critical incidents
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate records
- Ensure department policies, procedures, and applicable laws are followed
- Coordinate with local agencies and community members
- Assist with scheduling, training, and performance oversight
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in patrol supervision
- Knowledge of New York State criminal and traffic laws
- Ability to work independently and manage personnel effectively
