Role Description The Utility Maintenance Technician II is a full-time, on-site role located in Nashville, NC, working primarily within the Public Works and utilities infrastructure. An employee in this class reads meters and performs a variety of tasks individually and as a member of a crew engaged in the operation and maintenance of the collection and distribution systems. Work involves participation in the installation, replacement, and repair of water and sewer pipes to specific grade and depth. Work includes making taps to water and sewer mains, installing hydrants, meters, and valves; and making repairs to the water and sewer system. Employees are subject to working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, rain, snow, confined spaces, from heights, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils. Work is also subject to the final standards of OSHA on blood borne pathogens. Employee may be required to wear a respirator. Employee is required to complete rotating standby/recall work. Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation and inspection for adherence to instructions, standard trade and safety practices, and annual performance reviews.


Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong skills in equipment maintenance and industrial maintenance for utility systems and related infrastructure.
  • Candidates should possess troubleshooting skills to diagnose mechanical and utility system issues and identify effective repair solutions.
  • Candidates should possess preventive maintenance and maintenance & repair skills to perform scheduled service, inspections, and corrective work on utility assets.
  • Basic knowledge of water and sewer system operations, utility safety practices, and relevant tools and equipment is beneficial.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and follow safety and environmental regulations.
  • Effective communication skills, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in utility, mechanical, or industrial maintenance are preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record; willingness to participate in on-call or after-hours response as needed.
