ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The Town of Nantucket’s Department of Public Works is seeking a dependable and motivated Laborer to join our team. This is a full-time position responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and general upkeep of Town facilities.
The successful candidate will perform a variety of general maintenance and facility support duties, working both independently and as part of a team to help ensure Town buildings and facilities remain safe, clean, functional, and well maintained. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance of Town facilities. Assist with the general upkeep, cleanliness, and safe operation of buildings and facilities. Move, load, unload, and transport materials, equipment, furniture, supplies, and other items as needed. Perform basic repairs and maintenance, including painting, patching, carpentry, plumbing, and other general facility tasks. Operate hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment safely and appropriately. Assist with facility projects, repairs, and maintenance activities as assigned. Follow established safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to lift and carry objects weighing thirty (30) pounds or less may be required. Work may require outdoor labor in inclement weather.
Full Time; Benefits; AFSCME Union, M2 position
Starting Hourly Rate: $33.50 (new hires) – $41.67 (employees with 12 years of service with the Town of Nantucket)
