Summary
The Town of Nags Head has an exciting opportunity to work for our Public Services Department. The primary function of this position is to provide administrative support and assist customers with disposal of bulk items brought to the Bulk Yard.
The schedule for this position is Monday 9-3:30, Wednesday 8-3, and Friday 9-3:30
Responsibilities
- Performs customer service functions in person, by telephone, by mail, and by email: provides information/assistance regarding department services, procedures, fees, or other issues; responds to routine questions or complaints; researches problems/complaints; and initiates problem resolution.
- Assists customers with disposal of bulk items (furniture, brush, etc.) in the brush yard: confirms customer eligibility, provides direction regarding allowable items and where to dispose items, provides guidance on obtaining a passes for disposal of bulk items.
- Compiles and/or monitors administrative or statistical data pertaining to department operations: enters, updates, and maintains department records and data; summarizes data, performs routine data analysis, and prepares reports; and conducts research of department files, database records, electronic data sources, Internet sites, hardcopy materials, or other sources as needed.
- Processes various documentation related to department or division operations within designated timeframes and according to established procedures: prepares, completes, receives, reviews, processes, forwards, or retains, as appropriate, a variety of forms, reports, correspondence, invoices, purchase requisitions, inventory logs, and other documentation; logs, tracks, or maintains records regarding department activities; compiles data for further processing or use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by two (2) years of experience in administrative support, customer service, expense tracking, or bookkeeping, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data. Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships.
- Requires the ability to work with and apply principles of persuasion and/or influence over others to coordinate programs or activities of a project, and resolve typical problems associated with the responsibilities of the job.
- Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight including exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
- Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, and noise extremes.
