Position Summary
The Strategic Programs Coordinator supports the operational and strategic functions of the Police Department. This position provides executive and administrative support to command staff, coordinates department-wide initiatives, manages grant activities, and assists with policy development and compliance. The role also collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to advance departmental goals and supports agency communications, in partnership with the Community Relations Officer, to maintain a consistent and professional public-facing image.
This position conducts research on federal and state legislation, regulations, and local government and community activities, and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Executive and Administrative Support
- Provide executive-level support to the Chief of Police and command staff, including scheduling, meeting logistics, travel coordination, and executive communications
- Prepare and distribute agendas, meeting minutes, memos, reports, presentations, and other correspondence
- Maintain confidential records and assist with internal communications and documentation workflows
Strategic Project and Program Management
- Coordinate and assist in implementing special projects related to accreditation, modernization, technology, and process improvement
- Develop project plans, monitor milestones, facilitate stakeholder collaboration, and report on project status and outcomes
- Support initiatives that improve departmental performance, efficiency, or compliance
Accreditation and Policy Development
- Support accreditation and compliance activities in collaboration with the Professional Services Compliance Manager,
including CALEA, CACP, and state-specific standards - Maintain the department’s Policy Manual, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and associated administrative protocols
- Conduct research and provide recommendations for policy revisions based on legal changes, best practices, and internal feedback
Grant Writing and Oversight
- Identify and research funding opportunities to support departmental programs, equipment, and community engagement
- Prepare and submit grant applications in coordination with the Finance Department and executive staff
- Track grant performance, ensure compliance with reporting and audit requirements, and manage associated deadlines
Crime & Data Analysis Support
- Compile and analyze crime data to identify trends, patterns, and emerging issues
- Create visual reports, maps, and dashboards to support operations, patrol deployment, community outreach, and grant applications
- Work collaboratively with Records, Patrol, Investigations, and the Professional Services Compliance Manager to validate data and contribute to departmental public safety strategies
Communications and Public-Facing Coordination
- Collaborate with the Community Relations Officer on internal and external messaging strategies
- Contribute to public reports, newsletters, executive summaries, and other community-facing communications
- Assist in developing materials that promote transparency, professionalism, and public engagement
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Knowledge of law enforcement operations and the local, state, and federal legislative process, including key steps and influence points

- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications

Qualifications
Education
- Three (3) years of experience in administrative, compliance, project coordination, or policy development roles
- Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Communications, Business, or a related field is preferred
Additional Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid Colorado driver’s license
- Must pass a post-offer conditional background investigation, motor vehicle record check, physical examination, and drug screen
Experience
- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible administrative or secretarial experience
- Two (2) years of law enforcement-related experience
- Familiarity with law enforcement accreditation standards (CALEA, CACP, POST, etc.)
- Experience with grant writing and grant management platforms
- Hands-on experience contributing to accreditation activities (CALEA, CACP, POST, etc.)
