POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for a broad range of youth library services, including programming, social media, materials selection, and outreach to schools and the community.
Works under the general direction of the Library Director and is responsible for managing library operations in the absence of the Library Director. Oversees the supervision of staff and volunteers directly associated with service to children, teens and their families. Provides leadership in defining goals and objectives for youth services that reflect the library’s mission.

- Demonstrated ability to create and facilitate innovative programs which meet the developmental and enrichment needs of youth and their families.
- Enjoys working with people of all ages, abilities, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity with an aptness to relate successfully with youth, families, and co-workers
- Demonstrated excellent technology skills, including the ability to help patrons use the library’s digital resources on a wide variety of electronic devices.
- Ability and enthusiasm in maintaining the youth services section of the library’s website and in building a social media presence to promote library services.
- Strong customer service skills and knowledge of children’s and young adult literature are required, along with internet and technology literacy.
- Responsible for ordering materials, cataloging materials, and maintaining an inclusive collection.
- Provides monthly and annual statistics to the Library Director on the use of resources, program attendance, and expenditures.
- Staffs the children’s desk on a regular schedule, and covers other public desks as assigned.
- Maintains a working knowledge of contemporary trends and technology in the library profession.
- Seeks grant opportunities for additional funding to enhance programs and services.
- Performs other library work and participates in special library projects as requested.
- Other tasks as assigned.
II MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Masters degree in Library Science with coursework in youth services
- Two years relevant experience
- Supervisory experience preferred
