POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Crew Leader
DEPARTMENT: Beach
REPORTS TO: Crew Manager, Deputy Beach Manager, or Beach Manager
WORK SCHEDULE: TBD, weekdays, weekends, and evening required.
SUPERVISES: Crew Members
JOB TYPE: Seasonal: Mid-May thru Mid-September
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Crew Leader is a seasonal position with the Town of Middletown under the direction of the Crew Manager, responsible for coordinating and supervising the Beach maintenance crew. Daily and weekly tasks include, but not limited to, seasonal installation of mats and boardwalks, daily set up and breakdown of entrance gate houses, clearing and maintaining mats and boardwalks, collection and disposal of any refuse, installing and maintaining snow fencing. Also assists the Crew Manager or Beach Manager by coordinating with Middletown Police Department to manage the flow of traffic into and out of all parking lots. Assists the Crew Manager or acts as Crew Manager in his/her absence.
Performs other duties as assigned including scheduling staff .
I ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinates the work of other crew members related to the cleaning and maintenance of bathrooms, surf and beach area, parking lots and Triangles A & B, among other areas.
2. Responsible for the proper daily set up and breakdown of gate houses. Coordinates the work of
crew members related to set-up, such as by placing safety ropes, cones, flags, umbrellas, tables
and chairs in appropriate areas.
3. Teaches new crew members daily procedures and tasks .
4. Ensures proper collection and disposal of refuse in accordance with the Town’s policies and
Procedures.
5. Conducts daily inspections to ensure assigned tasks to crew members are being properly
accomplished.
6. Creates a safe environment for both beach patrons and beach staff to operate in, such as by
ensuring removal of debris, repair and replacement of mats and boardwalks as needed.
7. Ensures proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment and makes recommendations for
their replacement accordingly.
8. Assists with responsibilities for any matters related to 3rd beach, such as staffing, customer
complaints, etc.
9. As part of closing procedures, ensure that all trash has been picked up, town vehicles (scooters,
gators) are stored in the sheds along with any other equipment.
10. Announces there are no lifeguards on duty at 6 PM through the loudspeaker.
11. Ensures all communication radios (walkies) and maintenance equipment is returned to proper storing location at the end of each day.
12. As needed locks up building (bathrooms, office, First Aid room, Lifeguard locker rooms) at end of day.
13. Assist with pre-season beach operations and preparation as needed.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.

IV PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use their hands to finger, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms; is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
