Job Description
NATURE OF WORK
Under minimum supervision, performs diversified tasks in developing and maintaining complex financial records of systems as well as performing administrative tasks. May perform billing and recordkeeping tasks.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintains various financial records and systems. Posts account balances, balances accounts and audits accounts for discrepancies. Verifies availability of funds as needed.
Prepares vouchers for payment and confirms funds are charged to proper accounts within the fiscal year.
Processes purchase requisitions, transfers, order supplies and/or services.
Contacts other departments and/or outside agencies to resolve problems.
Handles and direct phone calls from the public. Provides information to the general public and resolves problems.
Utilizes computer to input, retrieve or display accounting information.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
May train, coordinate and review the work of subordinate clerical staff.
May maintain payroll and attendance records on a computer.
Processes and reconciles employee fringe benefit program as needed.
May maintain a budget. Processes and provides information relating to account balances and expenditures.
Prepares correspondence and reports.
Performs other duties as required.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices. Ability to maintain financial systems and records. Knowledge of budgeting process, payroll process and operating procedures.
Ability to review the work of others. Ability to use a computer, typewriter, calculator and applicable software programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be mobile and able to push/pull and lift objects less than 20 pounds. Able to sit for prolonged periods. Able to perform such manipulative tasks, such as writing, collating, using a calculator, and skills which require hand-eye coordination, such as using a typewriter and computer.
Must be able to see objects closely, as in typing or reading a document. Able to hear normal sounds with background noise, distinguish voice patterns, and communicate through speech, as in using a telephone.
Must be able to concentrate on fine details with constant interruption, attend to tasks for 45–60 minutes at a time, remember multiple assignments given over long periods of time, and understand the theories behind several related concepts.
Ability to get along with co-workers, supervisors, customers and the public at large.
May be exposed to dust, fluctuations in inside temperatures and electro-magnetic radiation as in computer screens.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or equivalent plus three (3) years of experience in accounting and/or maintaining accounting systems and records.
