Overview
The Town of Lincoln is seeking a dedicated and reliable Public Safety Dispatcher to join our team. Under the supervision of the Shift Commander, you will serve as a vital link between the public and our police officers, ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. Responsibilities
As a Public Safety Dispatcher, you will be responsible for a wide range of critical tasks, including:
- Answering and managing all emergency and non-emergency calls, including 9-1-1 lines.
- Dispatching police personnel and equipment using a multi-channel radio system.
- Maintaining detailed records of incoming complaints and public safety activities using our Records Management System (RMS).
- Operating specialized systems, such as the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and our fire alarm system (training will be provided).
- Monitoring the activity of public safety personnel via RMS and radio.
- Coordinating support services like fire/EMS, towing, and Emergency Management Agency (EMA) requests.
- Using a multi-line phone system and a digital recording system to manage all communications.
- Monitoring closed-circuit television to observe cellblocks and the building interior/exterior.
- Staying informed on the layout of streets, town buildings, and other important community areas.
- Following all Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Lincoln Police Department regulations.
- Performing additional tasks as needed to support the efficient operation of the department.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Computer literacy with a strong understanding of Microsoft Windows is preferred.
- Clerical and typing experience is required.
- Must be able to successfully complete an on-the-job training period.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical & Working Conditions
- Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions while handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- This is an office-based position.
- Must be available to work all shifts, including overnight hours. (The current opening is for the 12am-8am shift)
- Ability to report to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be available to work overtime in emergency situations.
