The Town of Lexington is hiring a Civil Engineer eager to deepen their experience on municipal and transportation projects. You’ll work across project development, design coordination, construction oversight, and field inspections—while supporting traffic safety, asset management, and capital improvement planning. You’ll be mentored by seasoned professionals and gain broad exposure to public infrastructure work that accelerates your growth.
- Keep infrastructure working: Oversee drainage systems, sidewalks, streetlights, and traffic signs for reliability and safety.
- Advance capital projects: Plan and deliver transportation improvements that enhance long-term mobility and performance.
- Own the details: Review reports; prepare engineering plans, specs, and contracts; produce accurate calculations; and track project status and costs.
- Be in the field: Inspect municipal and developer-installed improvements for conformance with plans, specs, and safety standards; collect as-built records.
- Use data tools: Assist with GIS/survey collection of infrastructure assets; deploy traffic counters to capture volume, speed, and video data.
- Collaborate widely: Coordinate with contractors, citizens, developers, and regulatory partners (SCDOT, Lexington County, SCDES); lead/attend pre-con, coordination, and conceptual design meetings.
- Contribute as a teammate: Support new designs, retrofits, and conceptual studies for transportation and traffic systems; help refine standards, specs, and bid documents; provide technical direction to technicians as needed.
- Bachelors in Civil, Construction, or Environmental Engineering.
- 2 years of civil engineering experience preferred (construction inspection a plus).
- Working knowledge of SCDOT, Lexington County, and SCDES requirements.
- Strength in reviewing technical/statistical info with clear written and verbal communication.
- Proficiency with MS Office, GIS, and MicroStation CADD or AutoCAD.
- EIT preferred (or ability to obtain within 2 years).
- Familiarity with engineering and mathematical principles for transportation/traffic design.
- Valid Class D driver’s license.
- Hiring range: $74,918 – $89,902 DOE/Q.
