NATURE OF WORK:
Responsible for supervisory, semi-skilled, and skilled work relating to the operation, control and maintenance of the Ledyard Wastewater Treatment Plant.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives direct supervision from the Wastewater Operations Supervisor and/or his designee.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Exercises supervision over Operator, Laborer(s) and other employees as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Responsible for the operation and maintenance of assigned wastewater treatment plant and pumping stations.
· Participates in training programs.
· Inspects plant regularly to determine efficiency of operation, cleanliness of facility, equipment and grounds.
· Determines remedial action in case of emergencies.
· Analyzes instrument readings and laboratory results and adjusts plant processes accordingly.
· Maintains logs pertinent to the operation of the plant, including but not limited to operation, maintenance and all safety checks including proper confined space procedures.
· Performs all tasks pertinent to the operation, maintenance and control of assigned wastewater treatment facility.
· Monitors gauges, meters and control panels.
· Anticipates needs of supplies and spare parts.
· Maintain all State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection required certification for the operation of wastewater treatment plant.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs related work as required or assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:
Knowledge. Skills & Ability
Two (2) years’ experience at Class III in a wastewater treatment plant is preferred. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent and have a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Must have the following State Certificate: Class III Wastewater Plant Operator Certificate or the ability to complete Class III within 12 months of date of hire.
Ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate work of subordinates.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and to read and write English.

Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in outside weather conditions as well as an office, and in so doing, works near moving mechanical parts and in precarious places; is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat and/or risk of electrical shock and vibration, any of which may cause marked bodily discomfort. The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to loud.
