Hiring Range:
Utility System Worker I: $21.936-$35.098 per hour
Utility System Worker II: $24.117-$38.587 per hour
The Town of Lantana allows for hiring at a maximum rate of up to 25% above the minimum range for the position based on education, experience, valid proof of certification(s), and trainings above the minimum requirements.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Utilities Manager, or designee, the employee in this position will perform skilled manual labor in the maintenance or construction tasks related to the Town’s water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater infrastructure, including water mains and services, sewer mains and laterals, streets, swales, stormwater mains, lift stations or in the water treatment plant, using a variety of heavy equipment, power tools, hand tools and other related equipment.

- Operates heavy equipment to install/repair water mains and services, fire hydrants, sewer mains, and laterals, and to clear blockages in sewer mains and laterals as well as in the stormwater system.
- Maintain a suitable means of communication (i.e.: telephone, cell phone) with the manager and/or supervisor as well as the water treatment plant.
- Maintains, installs, and repairs water meters. Locates leaks and breaks in underground piping systems and makes necessary repairs in the water, wastewater, and stormwater systems as required.
- Repairs broken sidewalks, and roadways, replaces traffic signs, and makes repairs to public buildings as required.
- Performs minor preventative mechanical maintenance functions on lift stations, water treatment plant, and vehicles; paints and maintains equipment.
- Reads water meters and performs other related routine meter reading activities as required.
- Performs utility locates.
- Overtime may be required.

Minimum Requirements and Special Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must possess a High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience in general labor maintenance and repair work including operation of basic power and hand tools.
Must possess a valid Florida’s Driver’s License. A Florida Class “B” CDL (plus a tanker endorsement) must be obtained within one year of employment.
Must obtain a Florida Department of Environmental Protection License Level “3” for Water Distribution within one year of employment
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A condition of employment is that the employee must have and maintain suitable and dependable means of communication/transportation available whereby contacts can be made by management and staff for response to emergencies requiring expeditious corrective action.
Employees will be required to respond to all calls within 30 minutes.
Where an emergency impacts the Town of Lantana, all employees are subject to work or return to duty as directed to ensure the continuation and restoration of services, maintain safety, and fulfill the Town’s responsibility to its citizens. Employees may be required to assist in duties unrelated to regular duties during emergencies.
The employee is subject to pre-employment, random, and reasonable suspension drug testing under FL State Statute 440 Drug-free workplace program requirements.

Personal Day - One per fiscal year if hired before Sept 1st of that year. Must be used before the end of the calendar year.
Vacation - Vacation hours for new employees will begin to accrue from your first day and can be used after six months of employment.
Vacation Accruals:
1 - 5 years = 10 days
6 - 8 years = 12 days
9 - 15 years = 15 days
16 or more years = 20 days
Bonus Vacation Days - An employee who does not use sick leave hours for six consecutive months is entitled to one bonus vacation day (8 hours). Bonus vacation days are calculated and earned twice a year on a calendar year basis (July 1st and January 1st of each year).
Sick Leave - Sick leave will be accrued at the rate of .0462 hours for each hour paid up to (40) paid hours per week, equivalent of (1) 8-hour day a month.
Sick Time Conversion - Non-probationary employees shall be permitted to convert to payment up to 40 hours of sick leave each December. An employee’s ability to convert sick hours is reduced by the number of sick hours taken between December 1 and November 30 of the preceding year.
Compensatory Time - All non-exempt employees may accrue compensatory time up to 40 hours. Compensatory time is accrued on the same basis upon which overtime is paid (1 ½) times.
Other Leaves - Family Medical Leave, Bereavement Leave, Jury Duty, Military Leave, and Unpaid Leave.
Supplemental Insurance - Employees are offered a variety of supplemental insurance such as hospital indemnity, accident, and cancer.
Life Insurance/AD&D - Life insurance of $15,000 is provided at no cost to you.
Short Term Disability - Insurance is provided at no cost to you.
Pension Plans - Defined contribution plan (401a) where the Town contributes 7% of your base salary into your pension. Full vesting (100%) after 5 years of employment. Optional deferred compensation pension plan (457b) where an employee may contribute as a before-tax deduction, and the Town will match up to another 2% of your base salary.
Flexible Spending Account - Employees have the ability to set aside, with the pretax dollars, amounts for non-reimbursed medical or dependent care expenses.
Health Insurance Health benefits commence the 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.
These are bi-weekly deductions as an adjustment before tax.
