The Town of Lake Placid is seeking a motivated and dependable Dual Licensed Utility Operator to join our Utilities Department. This position plays a critical role in the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and regulatory compliance of the Town’s water and wastewater treatment systems.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum Florida Class “B” Wastewater Operator License and a minimum Florida Class “C” Water Treatment Operator License, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced municipal utility environment.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D. Possession of a valid Florida Class “B” Wastewater Treatment Operator License.

Possession of a valid Florida Class “C” Water Treatment Plant Operator License.

Valid Florida Driver License required.

Ability to obtain appropriate CDL endorsement preferred or as required by the Town.

Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in water and/or wastewater treatment operations preferred.

Knowledge of FDEP regulations, permitting requirements, sampling procedures, and operational reporting.

Ability to respond to emergency call-outs, after-hours issues, rotating on-call assignments, and weekend operational needs for both water and wastewater systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operate and monitor wastewater treatment and water treatment facilities to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Perform daily plant inspections, process control testing, equipment monitoring, and operational adjustments.

Maintain accurate operational logs, laboratory records, maintenance reports, and compliance documentation.

Collect samples and conduct routine laboratory testing in accordance with FDEP standards.

Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of pumps, motors, chemical feed systems, lift stations, filters, clarifiers, and related utility infrastructure.

Monitor SCADA systems and respond appropriately to alarms and operational concerns.

Coordinate with supervisors regarding process improvements, preventative maintenance, and emergency response activities.

Maintain safe work practices and comply with all Town safety policies and procedures.

Assist with utility emergencies, infrastructure repairs, and special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and equipment.

Ability to interpret technical manuals, operational data, and regulatory requirements.

Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude.

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Ability to communicate effectively with staff, contractors, regulatory agencies, and the public.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform manual labor as required.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in outdoor environmental conditions for extended periods.

Compensation & Benefits

$18.00 – $26.00 per hour ($37,440 – $54,080 annually), dependent upon qualifications, certifications, and experience. Additional compensation opportunities may include on-call pay, overtime, and certification incentives as applicable. The Town of Lake Placid offers a competitive benefits package including:
