The Town is recruiting for a Motor Equipment Operator position which entails manual work involving responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of various types of motor equipment and the performance of manual duties related to the operation of the equipment. The work also involves the performance of a variety of unskilled labor tasks.

SOME OF THE TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
The following work activities are illustrative. Not all duties will be performed at every location in the jurisdiction. In addition, other unspecified labor-class duties may be assigned by the supervisor or appointing authority, as necessary.
Operates a truck in connection with the removal of snow and refuse, and the transportation of stone, gravel, and supplies; Operates a tractor with mowing attachments or a truck with a snow loader, snow plow, or other attachments; Operates other street construction equipment; Performs preventative maintenance of department equipment; Performs manual labor such as loading trucks, digging ditches, cutting trees and brush, flushing sewers, cleaning culverts, and raking blacktop and chipping wood; May perform work in water, sewer parks, facilities, highways and any other public works related functions; May supervise others or small work crews, as specific tasks require. Acts as essential personnel and will be required to respond to emergency call-ins.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (for Town of Ithaca)
Must be a resident of Tompkins County or contiguous county and must be able to respond to emergencies within 30-40 minutes of a call-in. The candidate must possess a valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License, Class A or B at the time of application. There can be no Air Brakes restriction listed at the time of application. The incumbent must possess a Tank endorsement (N) within 90 days of appointment. The physical ability to lift and routinely handle weights in excess of 50 pounds.
